History of the Breed: A Whippet is a medium-sized sighthound that was likely developed by crossing Greyhounds and
Italian Greyhounds with long legged Terriers. Originally Bred to hunt small game for food. In the 19th century, whippet racing was a national
sport in England. The Whippet is one of the fastest breeds and can reach speeds of 37 miles an hour. Factory and mineworkers in Northern
England used this breed in rag races and they became known as the poorman's greyhound.
General Appearance: A medium sized sighthound with a long lean head and a long and powerful muzzle. The nose is black. The
eyes are large and dark. The small rose ears sit back on the head. The chest is deep reaching near the elbow. There is a definite tuckup of
the underline. The tail is long and tapering and carried low.
