History of the Breed: The Welsh Terrier is likely a descendent of the original rough Black and Tan that was likely the first Terrier
introduced into England and Wales. Prior to the late 19th century the Welsh Terrier was commonly known as the Old English Terrier or
Black-and-Tan Wire Haired Terrier. The Welsh Terrier is a sporting dog originally used to hunt Otter, and Badger in cold and rocky rivers,
and to hunt Fox over the dangerous mountains of North Wales.
General Appearance: A compact, rugged dog of medium size with a coarse wire-textured coat closely resembling the Lakeland Terrier.
The legs, underbody and head are tan; the jacket black (or occasionally grizzle). The tail is docked to length meant to complete the image of
a "square dog" approximately as high as he is long.

Coat: Abundant, wiry, hard and close.

Grooming needs: High, About four or five clippings a year will keep a pet looking trim. The adult coat doesn't shed, so a good
brushing and combing once a week is necessary to keep the dead hairs removed.
