History of the Breed: The Toy Poodle originated in France and was bred down from the larger Standard and Miniature Poodles. All Poodle types exhibit the same general characteristics. The original Standard Poodle was used as a water dog, and as a gun dog retriever for Duck.
Toys were used as hand-warmers and were small enough to lay in the large sleeves of nobility during the Renaissance period.
From as far back as the early 1700s, Miniature and Toy Poodles became popular with traveling performers who trained them to perform tricks.
General Appearance: A toy breed that has a body length equal to its height with an upright neck and tail. The head is moderately rounded with a long, straight and fine muzzle with dark, oval eyes and with long wide thickly feathered ears that hang close to the head.
The body is covered with a non-shedding, dense and harsh curly texture and can be groomed in a variety of unique looks.
