History of the Breed: This breed named after the city of Manchester in England originated from the work of John Hulme. Mr. Hulme wanted
to breed a small quick working dog. He mated a Whippet bitch with a rough Black and Tan terrier that was an excellent ratter. A rat killing sport
developed in England in the 19th century where dogs were put into pits with rats and bets were placed on dogs that could kill the greatest number
of rats. The Manchester terrier excelled in this sport.
General Appearance: A small, black, short-coated terrier that looks like a small Doberman with distinctive black and tan color markings
and a taper style tail. A sleek slightly longer than tall sturdy terrier that has a wedge-shaped long and clean head with erect ears, and a keen,
bright, alert expression.
