History of the Breed: The Siberian Husky is an ancient breed from Northern Siberia bred by the Chukchi tribe as a sled dog. The Chukchi had to travel incredible distances in order to survive and relied on these dogs to pull sleds over long distances in harsh environments. The Chukchi people were so isolated that it was not until the late 19th Century that fur trading and the gold rush made these dogs popular. It is at this time that the breed became known as the Siberian Husky. In the early 20th century the Siberian Husky was made famous by sled racing. These dogs were again made famous when they were used to save the township of Nome, Alaska from diphtheria by traveling 658 miles in a serum relay race.

The Siberian Husky was registered by the AKC in 1930.
