History of the Breed: The Sealyham Terrier originated in Wales in the mid 19th century. Developed by crossing Basset Hounds, Bull Terriers, Fox Terriers, West Highland White Terriers, and the Dandie Dinmont Terriers. The Sealyham Terrier received its name from Sealy Ham, Haverfordwest, Wales, the estate of Captain John Edwards, who developed this breed specifically for quarrying badger, fox and otter on his estate.

The Sealyham Terrier was recognized by the AKC in 1911

General Appearance: A small long, low to the ground, powerful Terrier. The head is very long and the width of the head is less than one-half the length of the head. The skull is slightly domed and has a shallow indentation running down between the brows. The jaws are powerful and square. The black nose has large nostrils. The dark oval eyes are deeply set and wide apart. The ears are folded level with the top of the head and rounded at the tip. The body is short-coupled and powerful, with a deep brisket and well sprung ribs. The tail is docked and carried upright. The long white coat is hard and wiry with more hair under the body, on the legs and on the head forming the beard.

Color: All white, or with lemon, tan or badger markings on head and ears.

Friendly with other dogs: Yes, with socialization starting at an early age. They can be aggressive with other dogs.
