History of the Breed: The Samoyed originated in northwestern Siberia and these dogs were bred by the Samoyede people to hunt, herd reindeer, protect the family, and haul sledges. Samoyeds were used to pull sledges in expeditions to the Artic and Antarctic in the 19th and 20th centuries. Samoyed dogs have been part of historic expeditions including the reaching of the South Pole in 1911.

The AKC registered the dog in 1906

General Appearance: A medium sized Artic Spitz type dog with a beautiful white coat. The head is wedge-shaped and broad. The long muzzle tapers toward the nose. The triangular shaped ears are thick, erect, set well apart on the outer edge of the head. The almond shaped eyes are dark, deep-set and placed well apart. The body has a deep chest reaching to the elbow with well sprung ribs. The loin is strong and the back is straight. The belly is tightly muscled. The tail reaches to the hock in length and is carried forward over the back and is heavily covered with long hair. The long white outercoat stands straight out from the body and forms a ruff around the neck and shoulders.

Coat: A double coat. The undercoat is soft, short, and thick. The outercoat stands straight out from the body and forms a ruff around the neck and shoulders. The coat is weather resistant.
