History of the Breed: This breed originated in China and shares a similar history with the Pekingese. The breed has been a favorite
of Imperial Palaces and royal courts of Europe. The breed first appeared in Europe in the 16th century brought by merchants and crews from the
Dutch East Indies Trading Company. The Forbidden City was invaded by Allied troops during the Second Opium War (1860). Many Pugs were brought
back to England during this time frame.
The American Kennel Club registered the breed in 1885.
General Appearance: A small dog with a large round wrinkled expressive face and a short black square muzzle. The large round eyes are
dark. The small thin ears are soft and are either rose or button shaped. The face wrinkles are large and deep. The neck is strong and thick.
The body is short with a wide well ribbed chest. The tail is curled as tightly as possible over the hip. The coat is short and smooth.
Color: Silver, apricot, fawn, or black with a black mask.

Temperament of Breed: Expressive, playful, and smart. Like many toy breeds pugs desire attention and may become jealous.
