Canine good
citizen
You have an obligation to society to train your dog in a way that
enables them to be a good citizen. A canine good citizen is a
friendly, non-threatening, and well-mannered, dog that we can walk,
play, or work, without risk of harm to others including other dogs,
other domesticated animals, and people.
Non-threatening to strangers
Your dog should allow a friendly stranger to approach it and speak
to you without the dog acting hostile toward the stranger.
Allow others to pet them
Your dog should allow a friendly stranger to pet or touch it when
the dog is by your side without the dog acting hostile toward the
stranger.
Not be hostile to a vet or groomer
Your dog should allow a friendly stranger to examine or groom
them, such as a veterinarian, or groomer without acting hostile
toward them.
Obey basic commands while walking
Your dog should be able to respond to basic commands such as heal,
sit, and be respectful on the leash.
Walking through a crowd
Your dog should move about politely in pedestrian traffic and
should remain in control in public place.
Reaction to another dog
Your dog should behave politely around other dogs.
Reactions to distractions
Your dog should remain in control and confident at all times when
faced with common distractions and not bark or become aggressive.
