History of the Breed: The Norwegian Buhund is a Spitz type breed that can be traced back to the Vikings over 1000 years ago.
The Buhund is used today in Norway as a farm dog herding livestock and guarding property. The first Buhund show was held in the 1920's in
Norway. Buhunds were brought into England from Norway after World War II and have since become established in the United States as well
as many other countries.
In the United States, the Norwegian Buhund Club of America was formed in 1983.
General Appearance: A small Spitz type dog with a head that is wedge shaped broad between the ears and narrowing towards the
point of its black nose. The skull and the back of head are almost flat. The eyes are dark brown with ears that are erect and placed high
on the head and sharply pointed. The body is short, light, and strong with a deep chest and good ribs.
The tightly curled tail is short and thick with the hair longer on the underside. The tail is carried over the back. The outer coat is close,
harsh, and smooth and can be wheaten, black, red, or wolf-sable in color.

Coat: A double coat, with the outercoat being close, harsh, and smooth and the undercoat being soft and woolly.
The thick coat is short and smooth on the face and lower legs and longer on the neck and chest.
Color: Wheaten, black, red, wolf-sable.
Grooming needs: Low, the coat should be brushed regularly
