History of the Breed: Although the Miniature Pinscher resembles the Doberman Pinscher they are not related. The Miniature Pinscher
is actually a much older breed. The breed has been around since the 16th century in what is now Germany. It was likely developed through a
cross between the Italian Greyhound, the Dachshund, and possibly the Pug. The breed is sometimes referred to as the Reh Pinscher for its
close resemblance to a small red species of deer in Europe. The Miniature was developed to hunt rats, small game, and other vermin.
General Appearance: Compact, small but well muscled dog. The head is in correct proportion to the body it tapers narrow to the foreface.
The slightly oval eyes are full and dark. The ears are set high, standing erect from base to tip. The skull appears flat, tapering forward toward
the muzzle. The muzzle is strong. The nose is black with the exception of chocolates which have a brown nose.
Teeth meet in a scissors bite. The body is compact, and well developed with well-sprung ribs, a deep chest
extending to the elbows, and a short and strong in loin. The tail is set high, held erect, and docked.
Coat: Smooth, hard and short, straight and lustrous.
Color: Red, stag-red, black, rust or tan, chocolate.
Grooming needs: Low
Temperament of Breed: Loyal, spirited, alert, high energy, intelligent. They are a big dog in a little dog's body.
Friendly with children: Yes, however small children can easily injure the Miniature Pinscher with rough play.
