History of the Breed: An ancient breed that likely originated from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet around 800 BC. These dogs were kept by
aristocratic Tibetan society and by Tibetan monks in the monasteries. They were treasured for their spiritually and thought
to bless their owners with good fortune. In 1901 Mrs. A. McLaren Morrison brought the Lhasa Apso to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Ireland where it was registered as an official breed in the Kennel Club in 1902. The Lhasa was admitted to AKC registration in 1935. It was
originally shown in the Terrier Group, then reassigned to the Non-Sporting in 1959.
General Appearance: The head is covered in long hair parted from the top of the head to the tail, the face has whiskers, and a beard.
The muzzle is of medium length and the nose is black. The brown eyes are medium sized. The pendant ears are heavily feathered. The body length
from point of shoulders to point of buttocks is longer than the height at withers. The chest is well ribbed, strong loin, well-developed quarters
and thighs. The tail is well feathered and carried well over the back in a screw position. The coat is dense, heavy, straight, and floor length
providing a unique look.

Grooming needs: High, a bath every 7 to 14 days with several brushings between baths. If kept clipped, the breed requires a
professional groomer every 6 to 8 weeks.
Temperament of Breed: An independent calm breed that is suspicious of strangers but very loving to their families.
