History of the Breed: The Kooikerhondje was developed in the Netherlands in the sixteenth century to be a tolling or decoy dog as well
as a vermin hunter. They were primarily used to lure ducks into canals where hunters could catch them in traps. The breed almost became extinct
after World War II. The Baroness van Hardenbroek van Ammerstol is credited with saving the breed.
The Kooikerhondje was officially recognized
by the Dutch Kennel Club in 1971.
General Appearance: A small spaniel breed with an uplifted head that has a moderately domed and broad skull. The length of the skull is
about equal to the muzzle. The muzzle is not too deep, the nose is black, and the cheeks are colored. The eyes are dark brown and almond shaped.
The ears are medium sized, long and feathered with back tips (earrings) and hang close to the cheeks. The square body has a strong back, deep
chest with sufficient spring of ribs and a tail that is carried level with its back and well feathered with a white plume. The coat is
party-colored of medium length and well feathered, with close fitting straight hair and a well developed undercoat.

Color: Parti-colored, orange-red patches on white.
Grooming needs: Low, regular brushing is all that is needed.
