History of the Breed: A giant breed, the Great Dane originated from an Irish Wolfhound and Old English Mastiff.
The breed can be traced back over 400 years. Its original purpose was as a Boar hound.
General Appearance: A giant dog with a heavy head used for fighting and hunting. The head is rectangular, long,
and finely chiseled with a strongly pronounced stop and a full square jaw with a deep muzzle. The eyes are medium in size, deep set, and dark.
The ears are set high, medium in size and folded forward close to the cheek and carried erect. The chest is broad, deep, and well muscled.
The tail should be broad at the base, tapering uniformly down to the hock joint and carried high.

Coat: Shall be short, thick and clean with a smooth glossy appearance.
Color: There are six show-acceptable coat colors for Great Danes:
Fawn: Yellow gold with a black mask.
Brindle: Fawn and black in a chevron stripe pattern.
Blue: The color shall be a pure steel blue.
Black: The color shall be a glossy black.
Harlequin: Base color is pure white with black torn patches irregularly and well distributed over the body.
Mantle: The color shall be black and white with a solid black blanket extending over the body.
