History of the Breed: The Canaan Dog, also known as Kelev K'naani, is a recent breed developed out of the ancient Pariah dog stock. These
Pariah dogs date back to Biblical times, originating in the Land of Canaan. Today's Canaan dog was re-domesticated and bred by a pair of
scientists, Drs. Rudolph and Rudolphina Menzel in the mid 20th century.
General Appearance: A medium sized, well balanced, strong and square dog resembling the wilddog type. He has a wedge-shaped head
with low-set erect ears, a bushy tail that curls over the back when excited, and a straight, harsh, flat-lying double coat.

Coat: Double coat with an outer coat that is straight, harsh, flat-lying, with a slight ruff. The length of outer coat ½ to 1½ inch
and longer on ruff and back of thighs and shorter on body, legs and head. The undercoat is straight, soft, short, flat-lying.
