History of the Breed: The Bullmastiff is a powerful dog, a cross between the Mastiff and the Bulldog. Originally bred to
find and immobilize poachers on estates and game preserves and as a guard dog. Today, the breed is primarily used as a family pet.
The American Kennel Club recognized the Bullmastiff in 1933.
General Appearance: A large and powerful dog, developed by crossing the Mastiff with the Bulldog.
The head is large and square with a wrinkled and flat forehead and a moderate stop. The muzzle is deep and broad with large nostrils.
The eyes are dark. The medium sized dark ears are "v shaped", set wide, and carried high on the cheeks. The body is large boned well
developed and square with a powerful chest. The tapered tail reaches to the hock. The dog is covered in a short dense coat
