History of the Breed: The breed received its name from the French province of Brittany. During the 19th century the gentry of England
would travel to France with their best gundogs typically, Setters and Pointers for a season of sporting.
These dogs were often left with the French landowners from one season to the next and this resulted in a number of
crossings between the dogs. The native French dogs mated with these English Pointers and English and Gordon Setters and produced the breed we know
today as the Brittany. From a sporting prospective the Brittany acts like a Pointer or Setter more than a Spaniel.
