History of the Breed: Developed in Scotland as a herding dog. It was bred as an independent worker, able to make decisions
concerning the welfare and safety of the flock without depending on the shepherd who might be miles away. It is believed that in the 17th
century the Polish Lowland Sheepdog was crossed with local Scottish dogs providing the appearance of the working strain.
In the 20th Century the Old English Sheepdog breed was likely added to the blood line to produce the longer coated dog known today as the
Bearded Collie.
