History of the Breed: The Staffordshire Terrier was bred in England by crossing the Bulldog and the Terrier and was originally called the Bull-and-Terrier Dog, Half and Half, and at times Pit Dog or Pit Builterrier. Eventually, the breed assumed the name of Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These dogs began to find their way into America as early as 1870, where they became known as Pit Dog, Pit Bull Terrier, later American Bull Terrier. Developed by pioneers and homesteaders of early America as a participant in the work of farm life as well as a highly regarded family companion and guardian.

General Appearance: A medium sized very muscular and athletic breed. The head is medium length with a deep and broad skull with a distinct stop. The ears are set high and are short and rose or half prick. The eyes are round and dark and set far apart. The muzzle is of medium length with a black nose and powerful jaws. The back is short muscular and strong with a slight sloping from the withers to the rump. The loins are slightly tucked. The chest is deep and broad with well-sprung ribs. The tail is short, low set, and tapers to a fine point. The coat is short, stiff to the touch and glossy and can be any color.
