History of the Breed: The Yorkshire Terrier originated in Lancashire and Yorkshire, England. The breed was developed by the weavers who
migrated to Lancaster and Yorkshire in the 19th century. The aristocracy in the Victorian period made them popular with the fashionable. The dogs
used to create the Yorkshire Terrier include the Waterside Terrier, the silk coated Skye Clydesdale and the black and tan Terrier. Some also
feel the Paisley Terrier also went into the breeding. The original Yorkshire Terrier was a much larger dog than today. Over time these dogs have
been reduced to the current Toy classification.
General Appearance: The Yorkie is a long silky haired toy terrier with a blue and tan coat. The body is compact and well proportioned.
The tail is carried slightly higher than the level of the back. The
coat is glossy, fine and silky in texture. On the body, the coat is moderately long and perfectly straight. Hair on the muzzle is very long.
