History of the Breed: The Field Spaniel evolved some 150 years ago about the time dog showing became popular. It is considered a rare
breed and has a checkered past. At one point, the breed was crossed to create a shorter in leg and longer in body dog specifically for showing.
This breeding created a dog that was not suited for sporting and popularity of the breed suffered as a result. The breed today looks more like
the original sporting breed and as a result its popularity has increased.
General Appearance: An athletic well chiseled and defined breed with a deep chest. The head is lean beneath the almond shaped dark
hazel eyes and has slightly raised eyebrows. The nose is well developed with good open nostrils. The muzzle is long and lean and neither snippy
nor squarely cut. The ears are moderately long and wide and set low and are well feathered. The neck is Long, strong and muscular and the
shoulders are long and sloping and well laid back. The legs are straight and of moderate length. The coat is long, flat, glossy and silky in
texture and can be black, liver or roan, all with tan. This breed typically has a docked tail
